PIBS Xi Vs F P
A terrific encounter unfolded in what was billed as a clash of the titans game… The red carpet was rolled out as the teams entered to thunderous applause from the 4-6 bedazzled watching supporters. PIBS playing in red and and FP in black(due to the amount of black L'pool jerseys ,they more so resembeled a bunch of confused deluded scousers)
PIBS won the toss and opted to play with the wind in the first half & as a result started the stronger, managing to rifle in a some early attempts at goal but to of no avail. FP got a hold of the game eventully with the two centrel midfielders started to get a foot of the ball and spray some nice passes and only for a well tuned in Murphy who cleared his lines would have went one to the good.Pibs created prob their best chance of the half when muphy received the ball on the half way after a cleared corner and preceded to stride forward like a young Steven carr played the ball into sweeney who picked out Al"smash it" farrell on the edge of the box only for his shot to take a wicked deflection and go our for a corner . Fitzy also went close with a free kick, and Dave "Tony Hibbert" Berry rolled back the years with a marauding run in to nose bleed territory after Sweeney dummied only for what appeared him to run out of space. The rest of the half were very much chanceless as a very impressive & dogged defencive didplay from krzstoff ,Prior, Murphy, Berry & O'neill when introduced keeping FP at bay…
Half time came and pibs team altered their plans slightly, getting o'keefe, hennessey & farrell to push a higer line. Shoot on sight – now were're talking, lock and load…
Car Bombing O'Neill, had a good clear shot on goal, but missed, he blamed his lack of semtex..
It worked to great effect as O'keefe & Hennessey started working the channels very effectively ,and 5 mins into the second half a goalward scramble was neatly tucked away from a 3 yards onside Fitzy despite shouts from FP.Referee J.Burke has no such issues and gave the goal. One nil pibs
FP stepped up a gear and began to have their spell, with some neat interchanged putting them in good shooting position,a well worked corner resulting in their big centrel midfielder getting away a header, however the big presence of "Groobelar" Adamaz a match for every shot in anger.
PIBS needed to stop the onslaught ,and upstepped "cantona " coleman, who's kung fu kick put the frighners on any FP (or pibs player for that matter) trying to steal the ball from her, take no prisoners, she excelled when called upon any was always well positioned to slow down all counter attacks.
McCarthy starred in the second half as his all action display in centre midfield, breaking up FP flow & retaing the ball when necessary also supplinging O'keefe & Hennessey who continued to work the FP back four. O'keefee played in Sweeney who beat the last man but his shot was well-saved down low by the keeper. The striking duo also when close themselves with late shots going narrowly wide.
With 4mins on the clock, the seemings meaningless ball out wide resulted in a collission of bodies, both teams looked at the referee who issued play a on,a quick thinking FP player picked up the ball and ran at the otherwise watertight defence and got a cross in with caused a goalward melee at which a FP got two attempt at goal, the first brialliantly saved down low by Adamus but was helpless for the rebounb.one-one
Th remainding few minutes played out with little action The final whistle went as both teams left the pitch with a point thinking what could have been… All in all a cracking encounter
#Disclaimer:reposts of a penalty shoot-out afterwards are wide of the mark, this was a fabricated story by FP.
Man of the match goes to Sweeney, as he ran rings around the oppostion…
