Top Gear track record broken
British firm Ulitma took matters into its own hands when its requests to appear on Top Gear with its GTR720 were ignored, and hired the track for itself this month (October 2009).

The unofficial but independently verified result was a lap time of 1 minute 9.9 seconds, the GTR720 beating the previous fastest lap of 1 minute 10.7 seconds set by Michael Schumacher moonlighting as the Stig. What makes the Ultima’s lap time more impressive is that although track optimised the GTR720 is a fully road legal car which costs around £30,000 depending on specification. The Ultima GTR720 is powered by a 7.0-litre Chevrolet V8 engine with 720bhp and is able to reach 62mph in 2.6 seconds and brake from 100mph to standstill in a seatbelt-testing 3.6 seconds.

The British firm states an even quicker lap time is possible"
