About Y23

Following a two year musical sabbatical, Emma ODriscoll has returned to the music scene with a new indie rock outfit called Y23.

Emma has spent the past 2 years as a full time TV presenter within R.T.E Television and most recently has participated in a number of reality TV shows including Celebrity 252 and this seasons hit R.T.E show Celebrity Jigs and Reels. Emma is the bands lead vocalist.

Y23 is a collection of musicians and songwriters from varying diverse backgrounds whose music makes for an interesting mix of soulful rock blended with a sweet pop sensitivity.

The group features:

Emma ODriscoll

Chizz (rhythm/lead guitar), (Rhythm/Lead guitar), a circuit singer/songwriter from Malahide, well known for his previous work listed on www.chizz.net. Rory is also the Programme Manager for Blastbeat; a music mini company programme involving schools throughout Ireland that also had its very own 6-part TV series which aired last April/May on RTE 2.

Michael O’Connor (Rhythm/Lead Guitar), a songwriter from Malahide, previously connected with the Irish group Relica. Michael also works with Rory as IT Manager for Blastbeat.

John McDonnell (Bass), a wonderfully talented up and coming bass player previously from the band Cyrus

Robbie Kirby (drums), a classically trained drummer, trained and developed by Monica Bonnie/College of music Dublin and previous member of the Irish group Columbia.

All of the bands music is predominately written by Michael and Chizz with some creative input from each of the other members. The band are just back from the recording studio where they have recorded two brand new songs ‘Almost There’ and ‘As The Stars Light Up’ which show the band’s contrasting styles of upbeat rock and heartfelt melancholia
